LiterasiAktual.com – Bahasa Indonesia telah ditetapkan sebagai bahasa resmi oleh Konferensi Umum Organisasi Pendidikan, Keilmuan, dan Kebudayaan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (UNESCO). Keputusan tersebut diambil melalui pengesahan Resolusi 42 C/28 secara konsensus pada sidang pleno Konferensi Umum UNESCO ke-42 pada hari Senin (20 November 2023) di markas besar UNESCO di Paris, Prancis.

Dengan demikian, bahasa Indonesia diakui sebagai bahasa kesepuluh bersama enam bahasa resmi PBB (Inggris, Arab, Mandarin, Prancis, Spanyol, dan Rusia) serta bahasa Hindi, Italia, dan Portugis sebagai bahasa resmi Konferensi Umum UNESCO. Dengan adanya ketentuan ini, bahasa Indonesia dapat digunakan sebagai bahasa pertemuan. Selain itu, dokumen-dokumen Konferensi Umum juga dapat diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia.

Mohamad Oemar, Duta Besar Luar Biasa dan Berkuasa Penuh Republik Indonesia untuk Republik Perancis, Kerajaan Andorra dan Kerajaan Monako dan Wakil Tetap Republik Indonesia untuk UNESCO, dalam pemaparan usulan Indonesia mengatakan bahwa bahasa Indonesia telah menjadi pemersatu bangsa Indonesia sejak sebelum kemerdekaan, terutama melalui Sumpah Pemuda 1928.

“Dengan perannya sebagai penghubung berbagai etnis di Indonesia, bahasa Indonesia yang dituturkan oleh lebih dari 275 juta orang juga telah melanglang buana, dengan sedikitnya 150.000 sekolah di 52 negara di seluruh dunia yang memiliki kurikulum bahasa Indonesia,” ujar Oemar.
